Farm Sanctuary

A 20 minute drive from Catharine Cottages will take you to an amazing experience. Pet the rescued cows, goats, and pigs in a guided tour and then spend time wandering the farm. This promises to be a rewarding encounter.
TIP:  The tour opens with a video that emphasizes cruelty to farm animals so you may want to skip the opening video.
DIRECTIONS:
Left on Rt 14 (3 miles) thru the town of Montour Falls and enter the town of Watkins Glen to W 4th St.
Left on W. 4th St (turns into Rt 409) to Rt 23/28.
Right on Rt 23/28. Stay on Rt 23 (8 miles)  as it merges to the left to Aikens Rd.
Left on Aikens Rd (2 miles) to the Farm Sanctuary.

Robert Treman State Park

At Robert Treman State Park (30 minutes away from Catharine Cottages) you can swim at the bottom of the waterfall.
DIRECTIONS:
Left on Rt 14 (1/3 mile) to Havanna Glen Rd.
Right on Havanna Glen Rd (1 mile) to end at Rt 224.
Right on Rt 224 (6 miles) to Rt. 13.
Left on Rt 13 to Rt 327.
Left on Rt 327 to Robert Treman State Park.

Ithaca Sciencenter

Just 30 minutes away from Catharine Cottages, in the lively town of Ithaca, is the Sciencenter with interactive exhibits. Look. Touch. Listen.  Ithaca has a lot to see including Buttermilk State Park, an interesting downtown, and much more.
DIRECTIONS:
Left on Rt 14 (1/3 mile) to Havanna Glen Rd.
Right on Havanna Glen Rd (1 mile) to end at Rt 224.
Right on Rt 224 (6 miles) to Rt. 13.
Left on Rt. 13 (14  miles) to town of Ithaca.
Past Bank of America and Wegmans on the left, start looking for a sign for 3rd St. South.
Right on 3rd St South then immediate left onto Franklin St.
Sciencenter is at 1st and Franklin.

Watkins Glen State Park

watkins-state-parkJust 7 minutes north of Catharine Cottages is the most famous of the Finger Lakes State Parks. Watkins Glen State Park has a reputation for leaving visitors spellbound.  The main attraction is the George Trail which wanders under, around, and through 19 waterfalls.  TIP:  With small children, drive to the North Entrance (the top) and walk DOWN the 900 steps. Then take the park provided bus back up to the top parking lot.  EXTRAS: At the South Entrance there is an olympic size swimming pool, a kiddie pool, a playground, and a picnic area.
DIRECTIONS:
Left on Rt 14 (3 miles) through the town of Montour Falls to the town of Watkins Glen.
The park is on the left.
DIRECTIONS TO THE NORTH ENTRANCE:
Left on Rt 14 (3 miles) through the town of Montour Falls to the town of Watkins Glen to W 4th St.
Left on W 4th St, turns into Rt 409 (2 miles).
North Entrance is on the left.
DIRECTIONS TO THE SOUTH ENTRANCE:
Left on Rt 14 (3 miles) through the town of Montour Falls to the town of Watkins Glen to Rt. 329.
Left on Rt 329 to the South Entrance on the right.

Havanna Glen Park

catharine-cottages-waterfallTwo minutes north of Catharine Cottages is Havanna Glen Park where you can hike to the top of an impressive waterfall in 5 minutes.  Then come back down and picnic or enjoy the childrens playground.
DIRECTIONS:
Left on Rt. 14 for 1/3 mile to Havanna Glen Road
Right for 1/10 mile to the park on the right
Drive into the park to the end of the main road to a Trellis.
Park and enter the path through the trellis.
